Dundee Rep Theatre's Restaurant Celebrate a Hat Trick

For the third year running Dundee Rep Theatre’s restaurant picked up Dundee City Centre Retail Awards, Eating Place of the Year in a glittery ceremony last week. Based in the heart of Dundee’s cultural quarter the theatre’s restaurant is a unique hub, a place to relax and enjoy freshly cooked food in a creative atmosphere. Where you can unwind and mingle with artists, dancers and actors from stage, small screen and occasionally spot a Hollywood movie star.

Restaurant manager Nick Wright said “We were extremely pleased to win the Dundee Retail Awards restaurant of the year for 2010, not just because it completes a hat-trick for us, but because throughout the theatre we are continually trying to ensure that we provide an excellent experience for all our customers, and this award confirms that we are going in the right direction.

The standard of competition has never been higher, so to retain the award is fantastic encouragement for all our staff, and their excitement at winning has been shared with our many regular customers.

We are always looking at what we do, wondering if things are right for all the visitors to the theatre. We work hard to provide high quality, home-prepared and freshly cooked meals using good local suppliers, served by friendly staff in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It is really heartening to be recognised for this, especially when we are up against ever greater competition in an improving restaurant sector in our blossoming city”

This is a double celebration for Dundee Rep Theatre as last month they picked up three Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) for their production of The Elephant Man. Since the first CATS ceremony in 2003 Dundee Rep has received fifteen awards in various categories putting them ahead of any other Scottish Theatre.

Jemima Levick Associate Director at Dundee Rep said ‘It's been a great few weeks for the Rep and we're delighted that so many facets of the organisation are being celebrated and recognised by the people that come here. We had a great run at the CATS a couple of weeks ago and now we have the Fine Dining Award to add to that. Dundee is such a vibrant city, it's great to think that we're helping to secure Dundee's position on the culinary and cultural map’.
