With previous destinations including Belgium and Germany, the EAN 2024 Conference is all set to come to Dundee in 2024.  Working collaboratively with the Dundee City Region Convention Bureau (DCRCB) has enabled the team at Abertay University to showcase exactly why the Dundee City region is the perfect location.

The European Access Network encourages wider access to higher education for those who are currently under-represented, whether for reasons of gender, ethnic origin, nationality, age, disability, family background, vocational training, geographic location, or earlier educational disadvantage.  The EAN is the only European-wide, non-governmental organisation for widening participation in higher education.  Membership is open to all those with an interest in widening access.

Around 250 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the two-day conference event (11-12 June 2024), which will be hosted at Abertay University.  The estimates have already put the impact of the event on the local economy at an estimated £227,500 (not including extended stays).

Professor Luke Millard, Dean of Teaching & Learning at Abertay University, said hosting EAN 2024 highlights the ability of both the city and the university to organise a major European conference and reflects the innovative approaches being developed across Scotland in terms of access to Higher Education.  He also welcomed the opportunity to work with DCRCB again after hosting the European First Year Experience (EFYE) conference in 2023 which was hugely successful.

“Without the support from DCRCB, it would not have been possible to organise such a large event.  We are looking forward to another very successful conference which will showcase the wonderful work across the Scottish tertiary education landscape highlighting a focus on access and opportunities for students to develop skills and attributes for the future.” he explained.
