€5 million boost for coronavirus drug research

The University of Dundee’s Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) has received €5 million of funding from the COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator to develop antiviral treatments for Covid-19 and future coronaviruses.  The Therapeutics Accelerator was initiated by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation , Wellcome and Mastercard Foundation.

The funding will enable scientists to begin work immediately on identifying novel anti-coronavirus agents focusing on identifying safe, orally dosed candidate drugs.
