A nation-wide health initiative – social prescribing- that will be rolled out widely in Scottish GP practices next year, will only work if formal referrals and prescriptions are used, according to a new study led by the University of St Andrews. Social prescribing aims to help patients with a wide range of physical and mental health issues from obesity to loneliness. Opportunities such as jogging groups or befriending services may be suggested.
