Insects whose profiles were raised due to their use in eating challenges on ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ are set to play a role in bringing affordable food to Zimbabweans.
Scientists at Abertay University are leading a £1 million project to tackle malnutrition in Zimbabwe through the mass development of mopane worms, insect-based ‘porridge.’
Dr Alberto Fiore says that “We know through existing research that edible insects are a good source of nutrients and, importantly, they are very affordable.
"We will be using existing techniques on a larger scale, and we hope this will help improve health in school-age children."
