Research Project Bears Fruit

The first crop of UK blackcurrants bred to cope with the impact of warmer winters brought on by climate change has been harvested.

75,000 blackcurrant bushes have fruited for the first time this year, reaping the rewards of two decades of research developed through a partnership between the James Hutton Institute and Lucozade Ribena Suntory.

It has been hailed as an innovative investment that could ‘climate proof’ the crop.
