18th BioDundee International Conference 2018
Release date: 24 April 2018
The last few remaining places at one of the country’s longest running life sciences and healthcare events are set to be snapped up.
Now in its 18th year the BioDundee International Conference, sponsored by Medtronic, will focus on new perspectives and new opportunities in life sciences and healthcare over two days at the end of next month.
Bringing together key people and organisations in life sciences, healthcare and associated sectors across the globe, sessions will cover innovation, bacteria, genetics and designing the future.
Lynne Short convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee said: “As in previous years, the event has a fantastic programme and an excellent line up of speakers as well as lots of opportunities to network at the reception and gala dinner sponsored by Hyper Recruitment Solutions.
“With the chance to hear from speakers of the calibre of Chief Medical Officer for Scotland, Dr Catherine Calderwood, and hear the science behind crime writing from Professor Lorna Dawson and best-selling author of ITV's Vera, Ann Cleeves, this year’s conference is not to be missed.”
Split into five sessions over May 22 and 23 at the West Park Conference Centre, topics will include:
• Innovation in Realistic Healthcare – sponsored by Vascular Flow Technologies;
• The Wonders of Bacteria – sponsored by Cellexus International Limited;
• The 3G’s – Genes, Genomes and Genotypes; and
• Designing the Future
Delegates will be welcomed by Professor Sir Pete Downes from the University of Dundee and Dr Ian Campbell of Innovate UK will open the second day of the conference.
Speakers from companies including Medtronic, EuroBiotix, Game Dr, Mozilla, MyWay Digital Health, Mercia Technologies, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (Cambridge, USA) and from the Scottish Research Community will grace the West Park stage.
Sessions will be chaired by experts in their fields including Professor Dilip Nathwani OBE, Professor Simon Milling, Professor Colin Palmer and Mr Rodney Mountain.
Day two of the conference will feature the Pitch Perfect: New Business Ideas Competition. Aspiring businesses will deliver a live pitch in front of a panel made-up of internationally focused Scottish-based investors and entrepreneurs supported by Elevator and the Centre of Entrepreneurship at the University of Dundee.
