Dundee’s technological experts have advanced the possibilities of space travel
Ground breaking advances for the global space industry have been supported by pioneering work in the region.
The University of Dundee’s Space Technology Centre helped launch STAR-Dundee Ltd. Using world-leading expertise, it has developed specialist technology for space, including a spacecraft on-board data handling network called SpaceWire, lauded for its high-speed, low power simplicity and architectural flexibility.
Innovative firms are making space their business too. Like Dundee-based Bright Ascension which was founded in 2011 to provide innovative solutions to space software. The team now works with agencies across the globe to produce leading flight and ground control software.
Plans by Aero Space Kinross (ASK) to create an aviation, astronomy and space flight centre of excellence sums up the region’s ambitions to build and broaden its space technology credentials.
