Research into how to fight tuberculosis (TB) with light and sound is being led by The School of Physics and Astronomy and Medicine at The University of St Andrews. The project has developed an innovative way to monitor the reaction of living bacteria to antibiotics using lasers and sound.
TB remains one of the world’s most infectious diseases and causes around a million deaths per annum. The research will lead to a better understanding of infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance and could be a platform for testing new drugs.
